Y’all know how I wanted to be JLo’s double since I’m literally twice her size and have roughly half her mojo. (If anyone can tell me the meaning and etiology of that term I will personally send you a candy bar—no joke.)
In the comments of that post (and y’all know how I heart comments) my un-SIL reminded me of a beauty blog by the talented hairdresser (Kristy Abrahamson) of my real SIL. She does these cool cyber-consults and sends you photos of hairstyles that could work for you. It’s so insanely cool. Does anyone say “cool” anymore? Or rad? Or groovy?
So here’s the edited uber-slick email I sent her:
Hi, Kristy!
I am Erin’s SIL and married to Jeremy who knows your hubby. Anywho, I enjoy reading your blog and even though I have not so much style, I would love your thoughts on my crazy hair.
I have 4 kids and after all those hormonal changes my hair is a bit wackadoo. The underside is curly-ish, the back is a smidge wavy and the front is straight-sih wavy-ish. Does this make any sense? :)
I used to have short hair, so this is the longest it has been in a while. I fight the urge everyday to put it in a pony tail. Because I have four kids to get ready in the morning, I shower at night which is part of the bedhead in the morning problem.
Sometimes I flat iron if I have time, but I would really like to figure out how to make it look wavy-ish. You can read my blog on my dilemma with that here: http://my-backdoor.blogspot.com/
Please help and I will make sure I make a huge deal on my blog as well. :)
Thanks and hope you are having a great day!
Elizabeth
I know, it’s amazing she doesn’t want to move to MT and be my neighbor!
Here was her more than kind response which I sort of fiddled with here:
Elizabeth-
Thank you so much for reading my blog! I am happy to help you in any way I can. I have been thinking about you and your hair all day. It just sounds to me that long hair isn't exactly working for you. If you are having a hard time parting with the length, a clean up of your layers is the way to to go.
Otherwise, I think the most suitable option for you, if you are a willing- Is to give you a short, textured hair cut. This way, your waves will be happy and free, allowing it to move how it is supposed to. Sounds to me like they are dying to be paid attention to. :)
Bringing up your length and creating a sweepy bang will change your ho-hum hair and give you some style! It also sounds to me like you are happy with coloring your hair at home, and what you are using seems to work for you. I don't think you need to change the color of you hair, I like it dark, and if you were to go shorter, adding any dimension would be too much of a change. The darker color is flattering on you.
I have attached a couple pictures to inspire you. Let me know what you think!
Thank you Elizabeth!
Kristy
And here were her three options:
After showing them to my hairdresser, she snipped and clipped and I came out of the star-bellied sneech machine like this:
I could never get it to look on photos like it looked in my bathroom, but I really, really love it! I feel like my waves are set free to go everywhichaway. I think hair should be free to be happy, just like me and I hear it thanking me every day.
No really, I do.
It’s very faint, but the waves are beyond thrilled, believe you me.

Thanks, again, Kristy for setting my hair free from ponytail prison!
See you next week for my Mother’s Day letter I wish my children would write, but they probably never will.

Oh, I love it Elizabeth. I'm glad the blog thing worked out for you. I still need to get my cut but just need to find the time to make it to the salon LOL.
